In Israel the development of the high trellis system for outdoor production has advanced considerably with growers able to cope with the extreme heat conditions of the Israeli summer, by utilizing the shade created using 2 metre high trellis running north- south on which double rows are grown. Yields are excellent, at up to 150ton/ ha at plant populations of up to 30,000/ ha.
