The people behind the success story
![]()
Eitan zehavi and David Chiel established the Dotan Company in 1976 to develop mechanization projects, the name being a combination of letters from the names David and Eitan.
Up to 1986, the company was principally engaged in the design and development of projects for the Ramat David Metal Works and projects in the field of bridging for the military industries. Having established itself, and with the expansion of the company into other fields, the two set up another company in Migdal Ha'Emek called "Hae'mek Design", with the intention of extending the areas of activity into the independent manufacture of special projects involving light and heavy machinery.
In addition to David and Eitan, the two directors, the company employs a staff of 12 engineers and metalworkers, and also sub-contractors when required.
The directors attribute the secret of the company's success to several factors: high motivation and a desire to be the very best, an intense application to work, persistence, and above all, original creative thinking and inventive ability. This ability combines well with a cold and logical analysis of every problem on the agenda.David and Eitan regard each project, not just as a source of income, but as something that is creative, and with artistic content, in which they also invest a tiny part of their soul.
With their extreme attention to detail, emphasis is placed not only on the efficiency of the product but also on its aesthetic form and pleasing appearance.
Not without reason, the two were awarded the Kaplan Prize: David Chiel - for orchard mechanization, development of a spraying rod and development of systems for agricultural purposes, and Eitan Zehavi - for a project in the field of trafficability and handling.
Outstanding Projects Of The company
Developing and implementing efficient means of agricultural transportation in the mid-60's, beginning with extracting fruit from citrus groves with the aid of low pressure tires and up to the universal transportation system that is regarded as the father of the "Ram-Sa" system.
Development of cotton mechanization, beginning with rolling sprinklers and ending in the raw cotton compacting and handling system that was developed in conjunction with the Ramat David Metal Works in the early 1970's, equipment that is working even today after more than 25 years.
Transportation systems, commonly used in Israel, known as "Ram-Sa" that were developed and introduced into Israeli agriculture in the mid-1970's. Today, 25 years later, they are the backbone of all agricultural transportation.
In the 1990's, the main project has been a citrus fruit picking system for industry. The design is original and the first of its type in the world. The machines are working in Florida in the United States at a picking rate of up to 20 tons per hour, during which 95% of the fruit on the trees is removed.
During the last five years, shaker systems have been developed for picking olives, almonds, and dates. These systems are presently undergoing accelerated development.
